about

from the window to the wall, dear alphabet does it all!

dana harrison is a queer sign painter and muralist born and raised in decatur, georgia who now lives in atlanta with her partner and their two cats and one dog. when she's not painting logos or designing murals, she's probably writing in her journal, playing in her bowling league, or going to an estate sale.

my story

i'm never quite sure how to pinpoint when my love of lettering first came about, but i believe it's always been within me. as an avid journaler, i explored lettering in my high school diaries, drawing letters past the margins in ballpoint pen. having worked in restaurants for years, i was always the one asked to do the daily specials sign. once i realized i had a knack for it, i began to offer my services to restaurants beyond the ones i worked at. post-college i began taking calligraphy classes and felt at home amongst the letterforms and flourishes and other letter lovers. from there it was a full blown ascent into all things lettering. i began devouring the art of words in any form available--from graffiti handstyles to ghost signs, editorial typography to vintage neon signs.

i took a sign painting course in 2018 that kickstarted my love for painted letters. shortly after taking the course i painted my first sign and i haven't looked back. as my love of signs grew, i quickly expanded into murals. there's something so thrilling about taking a small sketch and turning it into a giant painting on a wall. i am now a full-time artist and i am so grateful for pushing myself to arrive at this point. i aim to imbue my work with a sense of playfulness, intention, and beauty. i thoroughly enjoy wordplay and tounge-in-cheek silliness, however i am also passionate about equity, social justice, and community. i am always enthusiastic to use my skills to illuminate and inspire.
